This presentation reviews the application of technologies and data sources such as the Internet, GIS, earth imagery, and how they can be integrated as part of a planned process for siting and design of pipeline, electrical transmission and other rights-of-way.

Data sources, application interfaces and the way information is communicated between field and office are examined, as well as the increasing ability to define and integrate more complex environmental factors into the siting, design, certification, permitting and design processes. Special reference will be given to pipeline projects involving this approach to demonstrate the application of an integrated technology approach to feasibility studies for preliminary siting, alternatives analysis, project certification and permitting and more detailed design.

Emphasis is given to the benefits gained from application of these technologies to planning and management processes with examples.
