The Call for Papers closed December 15, 2017. Peer review is currently underway.
The theme of ROW 12 will be “Managing Rights-of-Way in a Changing Climate,” and through this call for papers, we welcome you to contribute to the body of knowledge. Environmental management of rights-of-way, whether it be planning of new infrastructure or operating of existing corridors, is evolving alongside changing climates, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder concerns. Papers will be considered amongst a broad set of relevant themes and topics, including planning and regulation, vegetation and ecosystems, wildlife and habitat, as well as tools and technology.
Paper types and topics. Papers may present research, projects, case studies, best practices or new technologies relating to the environmental impacts of rights-of-way. Papers that address the theme of the impact of climate change on planning and managing rights-of-way will also be considered.
Each submission must be classified by the submitting author into one of the following fields:
- Climate Change
- Evaluation and Assessment
- Vegetation Management
Selection. Abstracts will be reviewed by subject matter experts. Selection criteria include:
- Relevance to rights-of-way
- Relevance to the theme of climate change
- Validity and accuracy
- Applicable across industries
- Educational intent (not a sales pitch)
Due to time and space constraints, not all submissions can be selected for the conference.
Presentation. Accepted papers will be presented at the 12th International Symposium on Environmental Concerns in Rights-of-Way Management in Denver, Colorado on September 23 – 26, 2018. At least one author, but not more than three authors, must be present to present the contents of the paper. Presenting authors are required to register for the conference and pay the registration fee. Full conference fees will be discounted up to 25% for presenting authors. Single day rates will be available.
Paper peer review. All manuscripts of selected papers are subjected to peer review by two or more subject matter experts. Recommendations from reviewers will be returned to authors for one set of revisions. Final manuscripts, reviewed and revised as necessary, will be submitted to UAA for copyediting and layout for publication in the Proceedings.
Poster Submissions. ROW 12 will include poster sessions in order to provide a forum to present and discuss works in progress, industry demonstrations of new applications or techniques, research demonstrations, upcoming research challenges, future directions, and novel approaches in the fields of rights-of-way management.
All poster submissions must include an abstract summary of the poster to receive feedback before the conference.
Acceptance Notification. Notification of acceptance will be sent to the submitting authors after the conclusion of review in March 2018. At that time, submitting authors will be notified by email of their acceptance.
